And so it began... the First Crafting for Life was held on April 30, 2011

We started our planning and promoting the event in every way we knew how. We advertised at our church, in the paper, at the fabric and craft stores, and a big part of the help came from the Akins who own the Ever After Scrapbook Store.
They helped us with getting the use of an empty shell, nothing in it at all, so what could we do with it?  Just about anything we wanted.  Garcia Furniture Designs donated fabric, we rented tables and chairs, made some decorations and before you know it, it looked like a party was going to happen...and you know what?  IT DID!!

There were a lot of give-aways, all of the crafting supplies were provided for the classes, and a free make-n-take was provided by Ever After Scrapbook Store too- Woo Hoo!  Thank you John and Camille!

Some ladies brought in their sewing machines for the classes taught by Domini and Janie, so we made some really cute diaper bags.

Jim taught us how to knit on a loom, so we made some little baby beanies! Marlene taught a group of gals how to crochet!  Now then, that's a talent and an art in itself!
We also made baby announcements and photo albums in workshops during the entire event.  All of these items were given to the PRC to have for their earn while you learn program.   This is a program that helps the moms learn how to take care of themselves and take care of their babies.

You didn't have to come and just do the crafts we provided though, a lot of the ladies were doing their own crafts...quilting, bead work, painting and then of course scrapbooking and card making.  Even some guys were there doing their own craft, model kits and mini statues. That's what this was...it was an all craft event ...with the bottom line of raising some funds to help the center help moms, their babies and save lives.

It was 12 hours of  fellowship, fun, food, music and just a real super time. Before lunch, the emcees got us up dancing and singing "Move your feet before you Eat!" - What a crack up!

We had a super great time and raised about $5,000.  Not too bad for our first event.  We had 70 people participate in all...
Everyone who attended wanted to do it again, so.....
Save the date.. the 2nd Annual Crafting for Life is scheduled for March 17, 2012.
